...WATERFALLS IN NEW YORK!...

by Pierre Baltadano

Bloomberg News is reporting that New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg has announced plans to bring waterfalls to the East River off of Lower Manhattan, beginning around mid-Julyand ending around mid-October. The waterfalls will be created by famed artist Olafur Eliasson, who's well known for his exhibit, The Weather Project, which was a large-scale installation of a sun-like object that was installed in 2003 at the Tate Modern in London, and the newly constructed Serpentine Gallery Pavillion (2007).

The New York City Waterfalls will consist of four illuminated waterfalls, ranging from 90-120 ft, that will be placed at different locations, one by the Brooklyn Bridge, another by Governor's Island, and the other two locations have not been announced. They will also be environmentally conscious of the native wildlife and pumped using the power of the water current.

CELEBS SUPPORT BRITNEY SPEARS ...

Heavy Breathing reports-

Rachel Bilson to GQ magazine: “I think people just need to leave her the f— alone. You see things on the news—hundreds of paparazzi. She can’t drive her car. I don’t know what she is doing as a mother, but that’s a really hard place to be.”

Demi Moore to V magazine:"No one has seen it worse than Britney Spears," says Demi, who stars with Michael Caine in the jewel heist flick Flawless, due in theaters at the end of March. "How can anyone see that and think that's an OK way to expect anybody to live, no matter where they're at in their life?"

Miley Cyrus to People magazine: "I think that she needs help. If I didn't have [my family], I'd probably be in the same position. You just got to know who your true friends are, and I think, for me, [that] is my mom. If you have sisters, I mean any girls that are in your family, that can understand and relate to you, I think is the best."

AJ McLean to People magazine: "I believe in her 110 percent, but she needs to call [me]. First I would say, 'What the hell is wrong with you?' Second I would say, 'What is really wrong with you? What are you not saying to everybody else?'

...WELL I LIKED CLOVERFIELD... SORRY MARKUS!

by Pierre Baltadano

Last night, several of us went out to watch Cloverfield, the newly released J.J. Abrams (Felicity, Alias, Lost, Star Trek) project. The movie has been much hyped about lately and although much was a mystery before the release, and still after, it is basically a monster movie that takes place in New York and is centralized around a group of close friends. I never tried finding out more about it because I wanted to try knowing as little as possible before seeing it. One quick alert - I wish I would have known more about the shaky Handicam-shooting style (ala Blair Witch Project) of the movie because it was dizzying and not for those prone to nausea, seizures, or vertigo...it will mess your shit up if you are; also, don't see it under the influence. Although, this style of shooting made me a bit dizzy, and caused Markus and my sister Liz to want to throw up, I still found it very interesting in how it made a monster movie released in explosive summer blockbuster style seem smaller and more personal. Although monster or takeover movies, like Independence Day, have a group of people at the center of the action, they also have those on the outside, but in Cloverfield you only get one core group in the middle of the action. You see what they see and only know what they know, but especially, you see it from their perspective. You know nothing about what's going on outside of their world and you only get a hint of what is being done about the problem at a certain point of the movie. The characters are also relatively unknowns and I think that that also helps out with keeping the movie more grounded and allows us to relate (as much as one can to a monster movie).

I won't say more about the movie beyond that I feel that it was a success in moving this film genre forward by busting cliches during a time when we are getting remake after remake and prequels/sequels up the ass (yes, even Abrams is doing it by making adding to the Star Trek franchise?). It's fast, personal, and shot for a generation understanding of personal documentation and exposure (i.e. MySpace and Youtube).

Go check it and see how you feel.

EVERYONE LOVES CLOVERFIELD... BUT I DIDN'T !

They should have named it Dizzyfield. They should warn people that you may need to vomit from motion sickness. The entire movie is supposed to look like your watching someone's personal video tape, so for the most part, it's bad angles and feet.

But I will have to say, the young actress that played Beth McIntyre, Odette Yustman, is going to be a huge movie star. Very beautiful and very talented! Sorry boys this 'lil hottie is taken by Actor Trevor Wright. And for you other boys, Trevor Wright just did a beach/surf version of Brokeback Mountain called Shelter with Actor Brade Rowe... Oh damn!

Speaking of hotties. The ugly girl in Mean Girls, Lizzy Caplan is HOT!

MILEY CYRUS SHOWS OFF HER NEW LOOK ...SHE'S GETTIN PAID!

Miley is definitely getting paid in 2008. Miley Cyrusshowed off her new look at the premiere of 'Hannah Montana' Thursday night at the El Capitan Theatre in Hollywood. Miley goes to show what I've been telling people since the 80's. I mean 90's. That money equals power. Or is it first you get the money then you get the women? Or is it the women first, then the money? Well whatever, she looks good.

DIESEL PLAYS ROBIN HOOD AT SUNDANCE...TAKES FROM THE RICH AND GIVES TO THE NEEDY...

by Pierre Baltadano

Recently, Markus is the Drug was informed that Diesel won't be having a traditional gifting suite at this year's Sundance Film Festival. Instead Diesel will be giving the celebs a chance to put together outfits for some of the children from the In a Perfect World Foundation, a foundation started by Prince's ex-wife Manuela Testolini. At Sundance, the children will have artwork displayed and celebs will then be able to customize outfits that will be sent back to the kids. Now that is a gifting suite that REALLY gives.

The In a Perfect World Foundation is a program that partners with schools and community-based organizations to provide financial and expert assistance in hopes of helping children throughout the country to "become compassionate, socially-conscious, and responsible leaders."

KATY PERRY IN MALE FORM...

...WHO WANTS TO LIVE FOREVER?!!!

by Pierre Baltadano

Via io9.com

Over at LA's own USC, scientists have come upon a breakthrough development wherein they have been able to stretch the lifespan of yeast bacteria tenfold. They did this by tweaking two genes that can be catalysts for aging in yeast and cancer in human cells. This procedure can possibly be done in humans due to similarities in the genes and a group of people from Ecuador, that have mutations with effects similar to the yeast study, are being studied by the scientists.

Now this, in my eyes, could be great for learning how to deal with cell regeneration after an illness, accident, or damage, but would I really want to be treated so that I could live nearly a century or close to a millenium? It could be great to spend different periods working in different fields or taking my time exploring so many projects, but how weird would it have so much time?

Would people lazy through school or spend moments of their lives being bums? How out of control could population, resource, and infrastructure issues get? Then again it could be great for science and development of medical research, medicine, or theory. All I know is that things could get crazy if we can live past our currently foreseeable future but we'll just have to wait and see now won't we. Will we want to though?

FORESKIN IS THE NEW BLACK ...

by Pierre Baltadano

In cruising around the virtual metropolis that is the Internet, I ran into a small blurb on the website of Indesign magazine about Australian fashion designer/artist Sruli Recht.

There wasn’t much content in Indesign’s little posting about Recht, but the Reykjavik-based artist’s experience in the studio of Alexander McQueen, a reference to shoes made for "throat-cutting thieves, and with a look akin to a mythological faun, he definitely caught my attention.

I always love insight into the minds of designers of any kind and Sruli Recht was definitely an interesting one. In navigating his site you can view many distinct pieces that are, without a doubt, a reflection of this artist storytelling imagination and design process. From face-covering capes, to a leather corrective brace, to minke dork (mink whale foreskin) shoes, Recht’s range of exploration in form, materials, and overall design shows up in a more whimsical, storybook way that makes me think of old age explorers and gangs of abandoned streets kids of a distant future.

hmmm... I've just bored myself with myself so instead...Check out his MySpace page or website for more on Recht’s wild mind.

AMERICAN IDOL SHOWS FERRAS LOVE...

Friday's Variety Magazine announces that American Idol will have three farewell songs this season as opposed to just using one like last past seasons (like you can forget Daniel Powter's Bad Day) and they're starting with Capitol Records artist Ferras' song Hollywood Is Not America. So listen for it on February 12th and 13th. To hear Ferras now check out his Myspace Page. Trust me this singer songwriter is truly infectious and will having you playing his songs on repeat and mixing into all your playlists. Oh hey! What it do baby bo!?!?

HOW DID HOLLYWOOD DEAL WITH THE CANCELATION OF THE GOLDEN GLOBES?...

...They found another party to wear those beautiful gowns to... They always do! The Art of Elysium 10th Anniversary Gala. Now I saw some great dresses and some bad dresses. Nevertheless, Hollywood gets and A for effort. I of course did not make it - this fashion Guru stayed in. Well sort of. I took it easy and went to a dinner party, which also included a very, very fashionable crowd if I do say so myself. It turned into quite the busy weekend, but no need to name drop in this blog because if you scroll down and check out Jared Craft's blog you might find a few names on the floor. You're welcome.

Some of my favorite looks of the night - Ashley Olsen giving me goth chic in what looks like one Morticia Adams favorites, this long black dress, very soft, very comfortable, I think its from her own line The Row, paired with a belt, a black leather jacket by Rick Owens, a favorite with this crowd, and a roped black pearl necklace. Rumor Willis looked very beautiful and mature in this sleeveless silk chiffon gown by J Mendel, just a classic look with a 'lil punk chic added to it. Only just bordering on boring was Amy Smart in red...yes please! Racheal Bilson in this white Dior gown was looking classic, yet her hair style is leaving me wanting different. Also loved this Nina Ricci 2006 on Calista Flockheart, which I believe was also from Lars Nilsson's last NR collection right before Oliver Theyskens took helm.

The top of my Worst Dressed for this night was Patricia Arquette, who I still love in this wrong time, wrong place for a RED Sari. Now I love Rosario Dawson but something is a little off with the construction of this "Shannon cover your ears" Black velvet J. Mendel 2007 gown. And with Ali Larter in J Mendel 2008, well I didn't like the big rosette detail! Britney Snow oh no with that lace prom dress from Gucci Spring 2008 - maybe its just the way she wore it!... Hmm why am I so bitchy? Eew thats rude! You're welcome.

Well I'm tired of writing just as I'm sure you're tired of reading all about these crazy bitches and their dress up parties. Peace in the Middle East y'all.

… MACBOOK AIR… THIN AND SEXY…AS A PROPER HOLLYWOOD STARLET SHOULD BE…

by Pierre Baltadano
Photobucket

At today’s Macworld Conference and Expo Keynote, Apple Inc.’s Steve Jobs announced several updates to its product line. From a wireless back-up drive/router (for over-the-air backups and home Wi-Fi) called Time Capsule, to iPhone and iPod Touch updates, and AppleTV updates for over-the-air iTunes purchasing and movie rentals, but the highlight of the show was the unveiling of the MacBook Air.

“It’s the world’s thinnest notebook,” says Steve Jobs.

The MacBook Air has a black, back-lit keyboard, is super, super thin (.16 inches at it’s thinnest and .76 inches at its thickest), weighs in at 3 pounds, and it has an LED backlit 13.3-inch widescreen display that’s instant-on. Like all Apple laptops, it also has a built-in iSight camera, but unlike all other laptops, the MacBook Air has a trackpad with multi-touch gesture support, the same technology that can be found in the iPhone and iPod Touch. The MacBook Air has reduced so much of the size due to small hidden ports (USB 2.0, mini DVI, and a Headphone jack) but also because it has removed the CD/DVD Drive. This might upset some people, but with iTunes (Music, TV Shows, Movie Rentals), a wireless back-up drive/Wi-fi router combo, and the ability to “borrow” another computer’s CD/DVD drive or the option to buy an external MacBook Air SuperDrive, Apple feels that they have made the right choices.

The other great thing about the MacBook Air...it has gotten rid of many harmful materials that usually go into computers and uses a aluminum case to make it a very "green" machine.

You can pre-order the new MacBook Air now with prices starting at $1,799 and with the first shipments beginning in two weeks.

And for more Macworld, as well as other gadget coverage, check out the always great Gizmodo

HAZY WEEKEND REPORT PART I...

By- Jared Craft
Photobucket

Eeks, what a weekend! The liver is killing me softly each additional weekend in LA, but sometimes I really do think it's worth it. This weekend was spent entirely with blog master himself, Markus Molinari. After a long day at the office Friday, I geared up with coworker Sarah Imparato to attend the show of everyone's favorite, Katy Perry, where I met up with friends Markus Molinari, Jessica Paster, Rob Williams, and Matt Dallas. After an intimate show with Katy, I sent myself to the new "It" spot, Villa, in West Hollywood with Sarah… awful; Markus went on to the Hotel Roosevelt/Teddys to meet up with Eve the rapper and his new Texas friends. I left Villa and met up with Rob and made my way to the 101 to meet up with Katy and Matt, where I ended my night.

Saturday night-

I woke up to two random girls in my apartment, neither of whom I knew; they ended up staying two days, "you're welcome". I made my weekend trip to Target with Erica Krupicka where I proceeded to spend money that I don't have in a way I had never intended to. I went and picked up Markus Molinari and Katy Perry to head to my friend Allison's where I met up with friend Fisher Pence; Allison was having an intimate dinner party for her business partner's 40th, in which Markus got to meet longtime favorite Paula Thomas of Thomas Wylde. After dinner, Markus, Katy, and I went on to meet up with Andrew Gallery at the Sofitel hotel; they were rude… don't go! Josh Groban swung by to grab Katy. So Markus and I made our way to the Hotel Roosevelt. Markus and I got acquainted with the drunkest one at the hotel who proceeded to continuously refer to us as his "brothers," homeboy lives in a studio in the Valley… ew. You had to be there. After the Roosevelt, we went on to Charlene Roxborough's to call it an evening with Rona Gaye Stevenson and Andrew Gallery.

HAZY WEEKEND REPORT PART II... SUNDAY

Come Sunday morning, my breakfast plans with Carlos Lopez diminished so Markus and I geared up and headed to the Chateau Marmont for breakfast and drinks with Katy Perry, Maybelle, Johnny Wujek, and Todd Dufour. We then made our way to Eric Podwall's to watch the Cowboys and Indians game, or whatever. Attendees included Eric Podwall, Markus, myself, Taylor Momsen, Kim Murphy, Chace Crawford, Angie Banicki, Liz Gemmil, Rumer Willis, and Ed Westwick. I buddied up with Taylor because she's 14 and I look 14, and she's cute like that. Eric continued to offer Chace, Ed, and I kamikaze shots. Markus told me not to take them, but I have a hard time listening and for some reason they hit me harder than Chace's and Ed's. I passed out. Markus, Chace, Eric, and Ed thought it would be funny to play frat boys and write "kcoc" (you can figure that one out) and draw boobs all over my face… okay, it was actually really funny.

Once I awoke, we made our way next door to a gathering of lesbians and football. No one managed to mention the cock and boobs on my face, so I went on with the party clueless. Eventually I had to pee, saw myself in the mirror, and washed myself off… thanks guys. We then made our way to The Dime to continue the party, Taylor couldn't come because she's 14… ugh. I met up with friends Ali Paul and Rachel Krupa and continued the party with the rest of the gang. Since we closed the bar down, it was plenty of alcohol and plenty of party. Rumer and I played deejay and I hit the dance floor with Rachel and Angie. Then, it was that time… I made my way to Ralph's, geared up on food, and headed home to blankey.
